Locum Nocturnist Emergency Medicine Physician — Level III Trauma, Epic, Travel/Lodging Covered

Locum tenens opportunity in Meridian, MS offering nocturnist coverage beginning May 28, 2026, with ongoing dates and flexible scheduling. The facility is seeking three nocturnists to provide clinical-only coverage in a fully equipped 32-bed emergency department at a Level III trauma center that manages approximately 33,350 ED visits annually and a high-acuity case mix. Care is provided for all ages, with admissions required when indicated.

Clinical responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage high-acuity emergency cases, including trauma stabilization and emergency interventions
• Coordinate care with specialty services and multidisciplinary teams
• Collaborate with NP/PAs and other support staff during shifts
• Accurately document all encounters in Epic EMR and adhere to hospital policies and quality standards

Coverage and support

• Night shifts (nocturnist); flexible scheduling
• Supplemental coverage due to staffing needs
• Multispecialty backup within the health system
• Support staff includes 36 hours/day of physician coverage and 17 hours/day of NP/PA coverage

Facility and systems

• 32 ED beds; Level III trauma designation
• Epic EMR
• Fully equipped emergency department

Credentials and requirements

• Active Mississippi medical license and Mississippi DEA required at time of presentation
• Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
• Minimum 2 years of emergency medicine experience; case logs required
• Certifications: ACLS, PALS, ATLS required if not ABEM certified
• Hospital privileges required

Compensation and logistics

• Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided
• Weekly overtime per contract after 168 hours
