Nocturnist Hospitalist (Locum Tenens) — Hoffman Estates, IL (Inpatient, Cerner)

We’re seeking a dedicated nocturnist to provide overnight hospitalist coverage in Hoffman Estates, IL. This locum tenens position begins June 2, 2026 and continues on an ongoing basis, offering dedicated nocturnist coverage with roughly 14–15 shifts per month.

What you’ll be covering

• Inpatient adult medicine with average census of about 18 patients per shift
• New admissions, overnight rounding, and phone consults
• Coordination with specialty consult teams (neurosurgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, nephrology, oncology, OB/GYN, urology, orthopedics)
• Full documentation in Cerner EMR

Shift & schedule

• Nocturnist schedule (overnight hours)
• Approximately 14–15 shifts per month
• Start date: June 2, 2026; ongoing coverage

Facility snapshot

• 212-bed hospital with fully equipped inpatient resources
• Cerner EMR in use
• Specialty backup available across multiple services
• On-site support includes 4 daytime hospitalists and 1 dedicated nocturnist
• Reason for coverage: supplemental coverage

Compensation & logistics

• Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided

Scope of practice & procedures

• Inpatient admission evaluations
• Hospitalist medical management of admitted patients
• Coordination with and handoffs to specialty consulting services

Requirements

• Active Illinois medical license required
• Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Active DEA required
• Completion of residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• New graduates accepted; prior experience preferred

Expectations & responsibilities

• Provide safe, timely overnight care to adult inpatients
• Manage admissions and ongoing hospital care while collaborating with consultants and interdisciplinary teams
• Accurately document all patient encounters in Cerner and follow hospital policies and quality standards
