We’re seeking a General Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage in Roswell, NM, supporting both inpatient and outpatient services. This is supplemental call-only coverage for ER/Trauma and inpatient responsibilities, starting March 30, 2026 and continuing on an ongoing basis.

Schedule & Coverage

• Coverage period: begins Mar 30, 2026 – ongoing
• Dates to fill: Mar 30–Apr 1 (start 7:00 AM), Apr 2–9 (start 7:00 AM)
• Call schedule: 24-hour beeper call (7:00 AM–7:00 AM)
• Call response expectation: <30 minutes
• Phone consults per shift: ~1–15
• Admissions per shift: ~1–2
• Patient volume per shift: ~1–5
• Rounding: included

Patient Population & Setting

• Adult, pediatric, and trauma patients
• Facility: 162-bed hospital, Level III Trauma Center
• Service setting: inpatient and outpatient
• EMR: Cerner

Clinical Responsibilities & Procedures
You’ll cover general surgery call for emergency and trauma cases and perform typical general and laparoscopic procedures, including:

• Adult, pediatric, and trauma general surgery
• Laparoscopic cases: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty
• Chest wall/pleural procedures; chest tube placement
• Central line insertions, PA catheter placement, vascular access devices
• GI endoscopy: upper and lower endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy
• Pediatric procedures: intestinal and biliary atresia repairs, umbilical defects/hernia, diaphragmatic hernia repair, imperforate anus repair, PDA ligation

Credentials & Requirements

• Active New Mexico medical license
• Board certified or board eligible
• New Mexico controlled substance license and DEA registration
• BLS, ACLS, ATLS certifications
• Patient Compensation Fund enrollment
• Hospital privileges required (temporary privileges available)
