Locum tenens pathologist needed in Orangeburg, SC to provide inpatient and outpatient coverage, including clinical responsibilities and weekend call. Coverage period begins May 8, 2026 through May 24, 2026 with additional dates possible. Primary clinical hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM; weekend call runs Saturday–Sunday 7:30 AM–7:30 AM (beeper).
Coverage dates (current schedule)
- May 9–10, 2026 — 24-hour call
- May 11–15, 2026 — day shifts
- May 16–17, 2026 — 24-hour call
- May 18–22, 2026 — day shifts
- May 23–24, 2026 — 24-hour call
- Additional dates to be determined
Clinical scope and volume
- Adult patient population
- Approximately 3,000 surgical cases annually
- Case mix: surgical biopsies, routine surgical specimens, cancer resections, blood smear reviews, routine pathology
- Duties include admissions and phone consults
Facility and support
- Non-trauma hospital using Epic EMR
- Standard pathology laboratory equipment and on-site lab staff support
- Coverage needed for planned time off (PTO)
Key responsibilities
- Gross sectioning and examination of pathology specimens
- Surgical pathology sign-out and interpretation of anatomic pathology
- Clinical pathology duties including blood smear review
- Collaborate with clinical teams to support diagnosis and treatment
- Participate in scheduled weekend call coverage
Qualifications and compliance
- Active South Carolina medical license or participation in IMLC
- Board eligible (within 5 years); fellowship required
- Experience in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology required
- Must be able to perform gross pathology; Epic experience preferred
- Hospital privileges required; credentialing timeline approximately 90 days
