Call Type: Beeper; 30-minute response time
Reason for Coverage: Supplemental
Clinical Duties
- Manage inpatient consults, ED consults, and transfers
- Admit patients as required
- Provide 24-hour on-call gastroenterology coverage
Procedures Required
- Upper endoscopy (EGD) with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder (cautery/laser), variceal injection, PEG placement
- ERCP — diagnostic and therapeutic
- Esophageal dilatation and manometry; interpretation of manometry
- Small bowel biopsy
- Lower endoscopy: flexible/rigid sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy/excision
- Liver biopsy
- Insertion and management of Sengstaken-Blakemore tube
Support and Environment
- Trauma Level: III
- Support staff: 1 PA/NP available Monday–Friday
- EMR systems: Medhost and Athena
- Temporary privileges available
- Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance covered
Requirements
- Active Texas medical license
- Board Certified (BC) in Gastroenterology
- ACLS certification
