Locums Hospitalist Physician

A critical access hospital in Irvine is seeking a Locums Hospitalist Physician to provide continuous inpatient coverage for a scheduled assignment spanning late December through early January. This is a solo-provider role offering a manageable census and a supportive rural healthcare setting.

Assignment Details

• Dates Needed: December 28, 2026 – January 4, 2027
• Shift Type: 24-hour coverage (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
• Schedule: Continuous daily coverage throughout assignment
• Practice Setting: Hospital-based inpatient care
• Weekend Requirements: Yes (included within assignment dates)
• Call Requirements:
• Unrestricted 24-hour call while not onsite
• Includes nursing home call coverage within the county
• Solo provider – responsible for all call during assigned shifts

Clinical Details

• Average Census: 14 patients (approximately half swing patients)
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient care and daily rounding
• Manage admissions, discharges, and acute medical conditions
• Respond to hospital and nursing home call needs
• Collaborate with nursing and ancillary staff to ensure continuity of care
• Document all patient care in the EMR system

Requirements

• Board Certified Physician (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine)
• Active Kentucky Medical License
• DEA Certification
• BLS Certification
