We’re seeking a gastroenterologist to join a hospital-based practice in Fort Myers, FL for locum tenens coverage from early May through the end of October 2026. The schedule is flexible — daytime consults, procedures, and follow-ups with call responsibilities that vary by site.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide inpatient GI consults, rounding, and follow-up care
- Perform procedures including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, ERCP, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
- Collaborate closely with APPs and a multidisciplinary hospital team
- Participate in phone and inpatient call as assigned (may include nightly or every‑other‑night call)
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and meet hospital credentialing/procedural log requirements
Who the patients are
- Adult population
- Typical volume: about 10–20 patients per day
- Case mix: inpatient consults, follow-ups, and endoscopic procedures
- Admissions and rounding included; phone consults expected
Schedule and coverage
- Coverage period: May 4, 2026 – October 31, 2026, with multiple dates in May and flexible ongoing scheduling through October
- Clinical shifts: daytime coverage with procedures, consults, and follow-ups
- Call: inpatient plus phone; minimum one week of coverage per month required (exact on-call frequency depends on location)
Facility and support
- Fully staffed endoscopy unit with advanced practice providers and GI support staff
- Hospital-based multidisciplinary specialty backup available
Requirements
- Active Florida medical license
- Board certified in Gastroenterology
- DEA required
- Demonstrated recent procedural volume (EUS and inpatient consults required)
- Must meet facility credentialing standards (credentialing timeline approximately 30 days)
