Summary
Provide clinical consulting and medical oversight for K–12 student health services. Partner with school health leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality care through policy development, case consultation, and emergency preparedness.
Requirements
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- Active, unrestricted Texas medical license
- Board certification in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Adolescent Medicine
- No current disciplinary actions affecting practice
- Experience with pediatric/adolescent populations preferred
- Knowledge of school health regulations, public health guidance, and compliance standards
Core Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight and expert consultation for student health services across K–12 settings
- Advise school health staff on management of chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, behavioral health)
- Interpret and apply public health guidance (CDC, AAP) for school operations and communicable disease response
- Develop, review, and approve health policies, protocols, and standing orders to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
- Consult on complex student health cases and clarify scope-of-practice for school health personnel
- Guide emergency preparedness and response planning (anaphylaxis, seizures, asthma events, infectious disease outbreaks)
- Collaborate with school nurses, administrators, special education, and wellness teams to support clinical decision-making
- Advise on risk management, documentation practices, and liability mitigation related to student health services
- Promote population health strategies and health equity initiatives for student communities
- Communicate medical information clearly to staff, students, and families
- Maintain availability for timely consultation and scheduled meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
