Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license
  • Board certification in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Adolescent Medicine
  • No current disciplinary actions affecting practice
  • Experience with pediatric/adolescent populations and familiarity with school health/public health regulations preferred

Key responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight and expert consultation for student health services across K–12 settings
  • Advise school health staff on management of chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures, behavioral health)
  • Interpret and apply public health guidance (CDC, AAP) for school operations and communicable disease response
  • Develop and review policies, protocols, and standing orders to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
  • Consult on complex student health cases and clarify scope-of-practice for school health personnel
  • Guide emergency preparedness and response planning (anaphylaxis, seizures, asthma events, infectious disease outbreaks)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (school nurses, administrators, special education, wellness leadership) to support decision-making
  • Advise on risk management, documentation practices, and liability mitigation
  • Promote population health strategies and health equity initiatives for student communities
  • Assist in communicating complex medical information to staff, students, and families
  • Maintain availability for timely consultation and scheduled meetings; perform other duties as assigned
