Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for locum tenens coverage in Pennsylvania. This role is focused on inpatient and surgical care, with no outpatient clinic responsibilities. The assignment consists of 24-hour call coverage in 7–10 day stretches, primarily to support vacations and holiday gaps.
Schedule
- 24-hour call shifts (7–10 day stretches)
- Approx. 7 shifts per month
- Cases typically start around 7/7:30am.
- Day generally ends at 5 pending case load and acuity of post-ops, etc.
- APP support 7am-6pm then switches to cardiac surgeon from 6pm-7am next day.
- 30-minute response time (can take call from local hotel)
- Average 2 admissions per call
Responsibilities
- Cardiothoracic surgical cases and inpatient care
- Primarily on-call and surgical procedures/inpatient consults
- CVICU rounding on post-operative patients
- Weekend rounding shared with APPs
- Case mix includes CABG, AVR / MVR, ECMO, single chamber pacemakers, and thoracic cases
Requirements
- Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Active Pennsylvania license
- DEA required
- ACLS & BLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience with case logs
