We’re seeking a locum tenens orthopedic surgeon with sports medicine fellowship training to provide clinical and surgical coverage at a Level II trauma hospital in Aurora, Illinois. This is a six-month assignment beginning July 2026, supporting a temporary vacancy in the Sports Medicine program.

Schedule & Coverage

  • Assignment length: July 2026 – 6 months
  • Clinical schedule: 2 clinic days (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) and 2 OR days (starts 7:30 am)
  • Call: Beeper call with shared weeknight and weekend rotation (weekend block: Fri 5:00 pm – Mon 7:00 am)
  • Call frequency: Approximately 1:7 for weekends; weeknight call shared among six surgeons
  • Call response time: To be determined

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

  • Adult patients
  • Clinic volume: ~25–30 patients per day
  • Admissions and inpatient rounding required within 24 hours
  • Phone consults expected
  • Typical cases: ACL, MCL, PCL reconstructions, meniscus work, multi-ligament knee injuries, and hip arthroscopy

Facility & Team Support

  • Hospital: Level II trauma center in Aurora, IL
  • EMR: Epic
  • Specialty backup: Orthopedic team available
  • Support staff: APPs (PAs/NPs) and surgical team support
  • Department bed count and some office equipment details: TBD

Privileges, Credentialing & Compliance

  • Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges are available
  • Credentialing timeline: ~3 months
  • Licensure: Active Illinois license or participation in IMLC required
  • DEA registration required

Qualifications & Required Experience

  • Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Sports Medicine fellowship required
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-ligament knee reconstruction and hip arthroscopy
  • Strong sports medicine surgical background and experience managing complex cases

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide clinic and OR coverage in orthopedic sports medicine
  • Perform complex procedures including ACL/MCL/PCL reconstructions, meniscus procedures, multi-ligament knee surgery, and hip arthroscopy
  • Manage patient care, follow-up, and surgical planning
  • Participate in the established call rotation and respond to ER consults
  • Collaborate closely with the orthopedic team and APPs

Compensation & Logistics

  • Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance: provided by the facility
