Required credentials

  • Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for the state of New Mexico
  • BLS certification

Core responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician guidance: medication administration, wound care, vital signs, ADL support.
  • Perform patient assessments (physical exam, history, medication review) and implement individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately per orders and protocols.
  • Assess, clean, dress, and monitor wounds/incisions for infection or complications.
  • Monitor and document vital signs and changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate patient records: treatments given, medication administration, condition updates.
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, self-care, and preventive health measures.
  • Administer and monitor IV medications and fluids; ensure IV line integrity.
  • Manage urinary catheters (insertion, maintenance, monitoring) and monitor for complications.
  • Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum) for laboratory testing.
  • Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate care.
  • Address patient comfort, mobility, positioning, and pain management needs.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide basic life support per protocol.
  • Follow infection control practices and correct use of PPE.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of medications and supplies according to regulations.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights and needs.
  • Supervise CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel when assigned.
  • Maintain competence through continuing education and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
