Requirements

  • Valid, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) state license
  • BLS certification

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician direction: administer medications, perform wound care, monitor vital signs.
  • Conduct patient assessments (physical exam, medical history, medication review) and contribute to individualized care plans.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately, following protocols.
  • Assess, clean, dress, and manage wounds and incision sites; monitor for infection and complications.
  • Monitor and document vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respiration) and changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate, timely patient records of care, treatments, and medication administration.
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, self-care, and preventive health measures.
  • Administer and monitor IV medications and fluids; ensure proper IV insertion and function.
  • Provide catheter care: insertion, maintenance, and monitoring for complications.
  • Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum) for laboratory testing.
  • Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate care.
  • Attend to patient comfort and safety: positioning, mobility assistance, and basic pain management.
  • Respond to medical emergencies per protocol and provide basic life support as needed.
  • Follow infection control policies, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
  • Safely handle, store, and dispose of medications and medical supplies per regulations.
  • Support preventive care initiatives (vaccinations, screenings) and perform health assessments.
  • Advocate for patient rights and needs within the care team.
  • May supervise CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel when assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing education to maintain current nursing practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
