Overview
Join a collaborative care team as a Licensed Practical Nurse providing direct patient care in Albuquerque. This contract role emphasizes safe, evidence-based nursing practice, patient education, and interdisciplinary coordination.

Required Qualifications

  • Active, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for the state of New Mexico
  • BLS certification

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician supervision, including medication administration, wound care, and vital sign monitoring.
  • Conduct focused patient assessments (physical exam, history, medication review) and contribute to individualized care plans.
  • Safely administer medications and treatments, ensuring accurate dosing and protocol adherence.
  • Manage wounds and incisions: assess, clean, dress, and monitor for infection or complications.
  • Monitor and document vital signs and changes in patient condition accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain thorough patient records on treatments, medications, and clinical observations.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, self-care, and preventive health measures.
  • Initiate and monitor IV therapy and fluids; ensure IV line integrity and safe administration.
  • Provide catheter care, including insertion, maintenance, and surveillance for complications.
  • Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum) for laboratory testing per procedure.
  • Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Address patient comfort and safety needs, including mobility support, positioning, and pain management.
  • Respond to emergencies following protocols and provide basic life support as needed.
  • Follow infection control standards and proper use of PPE.
  • Comply with medication, supply handling, storage, and disposal regulations.
  • Promote preventive health (vaccinations, screenings) and support health maintenance activities.
  • Advocate for patient rights and appropriate care within the healthcare team.
  • Participate in ongoing education to remain current with nursing best practices and regulations.
  • May supervise CNAs or other unlicensed assistive personnel as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management.
