Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking an experienced Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide weekend and intermittent coverage in Lexington, KY. This role is ideal for a highly skilled provider with strong first assist experience in cardiothoracic procedures and the ability to manage patients across the OR, ICU, and telemetry settings.

Position Details:

• Shift Type: 24-hour shifts
• Coverage Needs: Primarily weekends and vacation coverage
• Call Requirements:
• 1–2 call days per week
• One weekend per month (Friday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM)

Practice Setting:

• Hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery program
• Responsibilities across the Operating Room, ICU, and telemetry units

Responsibilities:

• First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including:
• CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting)
• AVR (Aortic Valve Replacement)
• MVR (Mitral Valve Replacement)
• Thoracotomy and lung resection procedures
• Provide perioperative patient care, including pre-op and post-op management
• Perform inpatient rounds and manage post-surgical patients
• Assist with procedures and respond to patient needs in ICU and telemetry units
• Participate in call coverage and weekend surgical responsibilities
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia teams, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Requirements:

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Active Kentucky license required
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• DEA license required
• Strong cardiothoracic surgery and first assist experience required
