We’re looking for a board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine physician to provide long-term locum coverage in St. Louis, MO (63141). This is a clinical-only, inpatient role covering an OB Emergency Department on an ongoing basis beginning August 1, 2026. The agency will cover travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance while the permanent search continues.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide 24/7 coverage for the OB ED, working in a dedicated 12-bed unit.
  • Evaluate and manage patients who are pregnant and up to six weeks postpartum.
  • Collaborate with APP support (PAs/NPs) who are available about 18 hours per day.
  • Manage an average daily patient volume of 40–60.

Facility and support

  • Service setting: Inpatient OB ED
  • Department size: 12 beds
  • EMR: Epic
  • Typical support: 2–3 RNs per shift, APP support
  • Temporary hospital privileges are not available; hospital privileges are not required

Procedures you’re expected to perform
Required:

  • Low- and high-risk pregnancy care
  • Fetal heart rate interpretation (NST/CST/FSE)
  • OB ultrasound performance and interpretation (Level I screening/viability and Level II targeted/anatomic)
  • Amniocentesis
  • Routine vaginal deliveries, low forceps, complicated deliveries, breech, multiple births, abruptions, VBACs
  • Decision-making for and management of C-section; repair of 3rd and 4th degree lacerations
  • Laparoscopic diagnostic/minor procedures (e.g., tubal ligation, lysis of adhesions, chronic tubation)

Preferred:

  • Office/minor gynecology skills (IUD procedures, cystoscopy, colposcopy, cryotherapy, LEEP, etc.)

Requirements

  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Emergency Medicine
  • Licensed in Missouri or holds an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) credential
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

  • Reason: Coverage for vacancy while long-term/ permanent search continues
