Locum tenens opportunity in Portsmouth, OH (45662) for a board-certified pathologist to provide inpatient clinical coverage and call from Jul 6 – Dec 4, 2026. Schedule is a repeating 3-day rotation (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.): Day 1 — grossing (40–50 cases) with frozen sections (1–4/week) and beeper call from 4:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m. (30-minute response); Day 2 — readout and ordering IHC/special stains; Day 3 — cytology. Travel, lodging, and malpractice are covered by the agency.
Typical daily volume: 30–50 surgical cases and ~10 cytology cases. Case mix includes general surgical pathology, GI, breast, hematopathology, genitourinary/nephrology, and gynecologic/non-gynecologic cytology; very limited neuropathology. Support: two other pathologists, three histotechnologists, two tech assistants, and two cytotechnologists. EMR: MediTech.
Privileges: hospital privileges or temporary privileges are not required/available. Call type: beeper; 30-minute response expectation.
Required clinical responsibilities and procedures: surgical pathology (GI, GU, dermatopathology, hematopathology, limited neuro), frozen sections/grossing, cytology (GYN, non-GYN, FNAs), bone marrow aspiration/biopsy and interpretation (including pediatric tumor pathology), plus familiarity with hematology, microbiology, chemistry/serology, and blood bank processes.
Qualifications: board certified in pathology; active Ohio license or participation in IMLC; BLS certification required.
