Locum Tenens Gastroenterologist — Inpatient Hospital GI Lab (Albuquerque, NM)

We’re looking for a Gastroenterology physician to provide ongoing locum coverage in Albuquerque, NM. This role is primarily hospital-based in the main GI lab and focuses on inpatient adult gastroenterology and hepatology care.

Schedule and Coverage

• Contract / Locum Tenens starting 09/14/2026 and continuing
• Clinical-only coverage, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
• No routine weekends; occasional holidays may be required

Patient Population and Case Mix

• Adult GI and hepatology patients, mostly inpatient
• Typical volume: about 8–10 procedures per day
• Common encounters include inpatient scopes and GI procedures, esophageal food bolus impactions, occasional inpatient GI consults, and hepatology-related procedures

Work Environment and Systems

• Primary worksite: main hospital GI lab
• EMR: Epic
• Reason for need: ongoing locum coverage

Procedures You’ll Perform (required)

• Upper endoscopy (EGD)
• Foreign body removal
• Fulguration/cautery for bleeding lesions
• Banding of varices
• Esophageal dilation
• Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, including polypectomy
• Adult hepatology procedures

Preferred Skills

• ERCP experience preferred
• EUS experience preferred

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible (BE must obtain certification within five years of training completion)
• Minimum two years post-training experience preferred
• BLS and ACLS required
• Active New Mexico medical license preferred
• Epic experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise inpatient GI procedures and endoscopic interventions
• Evaluate and manage adult gastroenterology and hepatology patients
• Provide inpatient consultative services as needed
• Collaborate closely with APPs and hospital-based GI team members
• Document all encounters and procedures in Epic
• Maintain quality and safety standards within the GI lab
