Locum-to-Perm Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant — Hartford, CT

We’re seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to join a busy cardiothoracic surgery team in Hartford, CT. This locum-to-perm role supports both inpatient and outpatient services and offers a chance to work independently while collaborating closely with surgeons, nursing, and ancillary teams.

What the role looks like

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts, with 24-hour call coverage.
• Start/Coverage: Begins July 12, 2026 and continues ongoing.
• Setting: Level I trauma center; mix of inpatient and outpatient care.
• Patient mix: Adolescent through geriatric; typical daily volume ~10 patients.
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred).
• Autonomy: High—you’ll manage patients independently within the team.

Core responsibilities

• Pre-operative evaluations and post-op care, including rounding and suture removal.
• Diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and coordinate care across services.
• Assist in surgeries and perform procedures such as:
  • Central venous and dialysis catheter placement
  • Arterial line placement and intra-aortic balloon pump insertion
  • Endoscopic retrievals
• Prescribe medications and ensure smooth transitions of care.

Requirements

• Active Connecticut license
• NCCPA certification (BC)
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Minimum 1 year of relevant clinical experience
• Local candidates only
• Epic experience preferred
