Job Description

Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the Division of Allergy, Asthma, Immunology and Rheumatology are seeking a BE/BC Allergist/Immunologist to join a collaborative and growing academic program with expertise in inborn errors of immunity, asthma care, food allergy, fellowship education, and multidisciplinary clinical research focused on improving care for diverse and underserved populations. 

Opportunity Highlights: 

  • Full-time, employed opportunity with academic responsibilities 
  • Join a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes 6 Allergy/Immunology faculty members, 2 Pediatric Rheumatologists, 4 Allergy/Immunology fellows, specialized allergy/immunology nursing staff, social workers, asthma-focused advanced practice support, and an established SCID newborn screening program. 
  • 80% clinical effort with 20% protected academic time dedicated to teaching, research, quality improvement, and program development. 
  • Balanced clinical schedule with 6–7 half-day clinics per week. 
  • Approximately 5-7 days of inpatient allergy/immunology/asthma consult service per month. 
  • Shared home call responsibilities with no in-house call requirements. 
  • Average weekend inpatient consult coverage is 1 every 4-5 weeks. 
  • Patient populations include pediatric and adult patients with a broad spectrum of allergic and immunologic diseases. 
  • Academic appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, Central Michigan University College of Medicine.  
  • Additional opportunities for inter-institutional teaching and research collaboration with Michigan State University and Wayne State University School of Medicine. 
  • Candidate Requirements: 
  • Board certification with the American Board of Pediatrics and/or American Board of Internal Medicine. 
  • Fellowship training and BE/BC in Allergy/Immunology. 
  • Eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of Michigan. 
  • Strong interest in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. 
  • Interest in quality improvement, education, research, and program development is encouraged. 
  • Experience or interest in food allergy and oral immunotherapy is welcomed. 

 

About the Division: 

The main Allergy/asthma clinic and immunodeficiency clinic are located at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Pediatric Specialty Center. Five additional off-site clinics around the Detroit metropolitan area provide outpatient allergy and asthma service.  

All sites are equipped for subcutaneous immunotherapy, food challenge and monoclonal antibody therapy with experienced RNs. An on-site infusion center at the Pediatric Specialty Center supports IVIG administration. 

The Division is a major referral center for inborn errors of immunity and serves as the sole coordinating center for the State of Michigan Newborn Screening Program for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). 

The division has a major role in teaching residents and fellows. Faculty participate in multicenter collaborative research focused on immunodeficiency, asthma, food allergy, drug allergy, and health disparities in underserved populations. Children’s Research Institute is located at the main hospital and provides support in clinical research. The division supports development of individual clinical and academic interests, including medical education, community engagement, quality improvement, food allergy, asthma, and immunodeficiency. 

Faculty interests are supported through mentorship, collaborative scholarship, and opportunities for career development within clinical care, medical education, quality improvement, and research.
