Locum Cardiothoracic Surgeon — Fort Myers, FL (Inpatient, APP Support, ECMO/Impella/TEVAR)

Locum tenens opportunity for a cardiothoracic surgeon in Fort Myers, FL (inpatient). Coverage runs 07/08/2026–09/30/2026 with a primary clinical schedule Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM–5:00 PM, plus one weekend per month. Night and weekend in-house/beeper call required; call is shared equitably among surgeons, immediate response expected, and callbacks occur only for emergent cases.

Clinical scope includes adult cardiothoracic patients—new consults, daily inpatient rounding (APP-supported), pre- and post-operative management, and phone consults as needed. Case mix comprises cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including open thoracic, VATS, robotic thoracic cases, ECMO, Impella, and TEVAR.

Facility and team support: surgical PA and CTS APP coverage; CVICU APP coverage available on most nights. APPs generate consult and progress notes for surgeon review and co-signature. Hospital privileges are required.

Requirements: active Florida medical license; board certified/board eligible in cardiothoracic surgery preferred. Applicants must document cardiac and thoracic surgery experience, specify open/VATS/robotic thoracic capabilities, and indicate ECMO, Impella, and TEVAR experience. Providers must be able to supply case logs demonstrating 50 cardiac and 50 thoracic cases.

Compensation: rate TBD. Travel, lodging, and malpractice coverage provided.

Key responsibilities: perform inpatient cardiothoracic procedures; manage pre-/post-operative care; evaluate and manage new inpatient consults; provide weeknight and weekend call coverage and respond to emergent cases; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and CVICU staff; maintain accurate clinical documentation.
