Locums Cardiothoracic Surgeon — Hospital-Based 24-Hour Call (Lima, OH)

A hospital-based cardiovascular surgery program in Lima, Ohio seeks a Board-Certified locum cardiothoracic surgeon to provide ongoing 24-hour call coverage. This role is well suited to an experienced surgeon comfortable managing a wide spectrum of complex adult cardiac procedures in a Level II trauma center within a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgical care, including daily hospital rounds and perioperative management.
• Perform complex adult cardiac operations and emergent procedures as needed.
• Participate in 24-hour call coverage (including emergent cases) and weekend shifts.
• Coordinate care with anesthesiology, critical care, cardiology, and surgical support teams.
• Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation in Epic.

Position details

• Practice setting: Hospital-based (Level II trauma center)
• Call: 24-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM); approximately 10–14 call days per month
• Average cases: ~1 case per day
• Operating rooms: 20
• Weekend coverage: Yes
• EMR: Epic

Required procedural experience
Candidates must be proficient in:

• Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
• Arterial revascularization (internal mammary, radial, gastroepiploic arteries)
• Redo coronary revascularization, with or without valve procedures
• Heart valve repair and replacement, including mitral valve repair
• Pericardial window procedures

Qualifications

• Board certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery and fellowship trained
• Active Ohio medical license required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Proven experience managing complex adult cardiac surgical and inpatient cases with the ability to work independently
