We’re seeking an OB/GYN physician to provide in-house locum tenens coverage in Santa Cruz, California. This is call-only, inpatient coverage starting ASAP and continuing on an ongoing basis. Shifts are 24 hours (7:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.).

What the role looks like

• Provide 24-hour in-house hospital call coverage for the OB/GYN service.
• Triage and manage OB emergency department patients and monitor patients on Pitocin—must remain onsite for the full call shift.
• Perform vaginal deliveries and assist with C-sections; assist with urgent GYN surgeries as needed while on call.
• No elective abortions or postpartum tubal ligations, except tubal ligation performed during a C-section.

Patient mix and volumes

• Primarily low-risk, underserved patient population; bilingual providers (Spanish) are strongly preferred.
• Average volume: roughly 1.5 deliveries per day (about 45–55 per month).

Facility and support

• Inpatient setting using Cerner EMR.
• Specialty backup available from Perinatology and Neonatology through Stanford/Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
• Onsite support includes ultrasonographer and 24/7 anesthesia (10 MDs).
• Temporary hospital privileges available.

Credentials and requirements

• BC highly preferred; BE required.
• Active California medical license and DEA registration.
• BLS and ACLS required.
• Recent/current laborist experience required.
• Clean malpractice history; must provide a Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation.
• Bilingual Spanish and local Greater Bay Area candidates preferred.
