Start date: ASAP
Shift: Mon–Fri — either 5×8-hour or 4×10-hour shifts
Required credentials:
- Active Virginia nursing license
- NC license
- DEA registration
- BLS and ACLS certifications
Primary responsibilities:
- Independently perform comprehensive physical exams and preventive health services for incarcerated patients.
- Assess health problems, develop and implement evidence-based care plans, and maintain accurate medical records.
- Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies within the facility.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, and medical devices in accordance with current regulations.
- Provide patient education and training to healthcare and correctional staff as needed.
- Consult with physicians when appropriate and carry out additional duties assigned by the facility.
Scope of contact:
- Direct patient care contacts; limited physician contact for consultation.
