Job Description
TeamHealth is seeking a dedicated and experienced medical director of hospital medicine to provide clinical and administrative leadership for facilities in Kentucky. The medical director will oversee the delivery of high-quality inpatient care, promote operational excellence, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This physician leader will balance direct patient care responsibilities with strategic oversight of the hospital medicine program, working closely with hospital administration, nursing leadership, specialty physicians, and other stakeholders to achieve organizational goals related to quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and physician engagement.

This physician leader will balance direct patient care responsibilities with strategic oversight of the hospital medicine program, working closely with hospital administration, nursing leadership, specialty physicians, and other stakeholders to achieve organizational goals related to quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and physician engagement.
Clinical Leadership
- Provide direct inpatient care as a practicing hospitalist
- Promote evidence-based clinical practices and standardization of care
- Support the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care
- Assist with complex clinical cases and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the hospital medicine program
- Develop and implement program goals aligned with organizational objectives
- Monitor key performance indicators, including quality metrics, patient outcomes, throughput, and patient satisfaction
- Participate in strategic planning and service line development initiatives
- Recruit, mentor, and retain hospitalist physicians and advanced practice providers
- Foster physician engagement, teamwork, and professional development
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
- Support scheduling, staffing models, and workforce planning
- Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Collaborate with hospital committees and leadership teams to improve clinical outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards
- Participate in utilization management, readmission reduction, and length-of-stay improvement efforts
- Serve as a liaison between hospital medicine providers and hospital administration
- Participate in medical staff leadership activities and committee work
- Assist with budgeting, resource management, and operational planning
- Support implementation of organizational policies and clinical protocols
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board certification in internal medicine or family medicine
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Minimum of three to five years of hospital medicine experience
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Prior leadership experience as a medical director, associate medical director, chief hospitalist, or similar physician leadership role
- Experience managing quality improvement, patient safety, and operational initiatives
- Familiarity with value-based care models and healthcare performance metrics
