Locum Tenens Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist — Inpatient Hospitalist, Missoula MT

We’re seeking a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry physician to provide inpatient coverage in Missoula, MT. This is a locum tenens position covering an inpatient 12-bed unit on a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule (typical daytime hours 8a–5p; 12-hour shifts available). Coverage runs ASAP through May 31, 2027. The role includes clinical duties plus beeper call on weekend nights (Sat & Sun) with a 20-minute response expectation; call ratio to be determined. This assignment is supplemental coverage until a permanent provider is onboarded. Travel, lodging and malpractice insurance are provided by the agency.

Patients and caseload

• Primarily adolescents 12+ and adults (no patients under 12).
• Average daily census ~10 patients; partial hospitalization up to 10 patients during the school year as needed.
• Typical case mix: anxiety, mood/affective disorders, ADHD, personality disorders, eating disorders, psychotic and developmental disorders.
• Phone consultation responsibilities included.

Clinical setting and support

• Inpatient unit with 12 beds.
• EMR: Epic.
• Support staff: 1 RN, 1 MA, additional PA/NPs TBD, and 5 office staff.
• Hospital privileges and temporary privileges are not required/available.

Required and preferred skills

• Must be comfortable managing anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, personality and eating disorders, involuntary commitments, seclusion and restraint application, pharmacotherapy, and ECT.
• Preferred experience includes work with developmental and psychotic disorders, organic conditions, group and family therapy.
• Experience with Epic EMR is preferred.

Qualifications

• Board certified in Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry is preferred. Candidates with BC Psychiatry plus extensive C/A experience or recent C/A fellowship graduates will be considered.
• Active Montana medical license or Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) eligibility required.
• DEA registration required.
• Familiarity with a hospitalist 7-on/7-off schedule is expected.

Primary duties

• Provide comprehensive inpatient psychiatric care for adolescents (12+) and adults on the 12-bed unit.
• Perform psychiatric evaluations, manage medications, and deliver individual and group therapy as appropriate.
• Participate in weekend night beeper call coverage.
• Cover the partial hospital program during the school year when needed.
• Collaborate closely with nursing, medical assistant, office staff, and other clinical team members in a hospitalist model.
