Join a team providing hands-on emergency care at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia, through SCP Health - Locums. This is a locum tenens position beginning August 1, 2026, and continuing on an ongoing basis. Shifts are 12 hours long, and travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are covered.

What you'll be doing

• Deliver comprehensive emergency care for patients of all ages during 12-hour shifts.
• Manage an average ED volume of about 44 patients per day (roughly 16,000 visits annually).
• Supervise mid-level providers who cover a 9-hour shift as part of the care team.
• Perform standard emergency procedures and document all care in Epic.
• Participate in quality initiatives and maintain accurate case logs.

Facility and support

• Smyth County Community Hospital: 44 hospital beds in the department.
• EMR: Epic.
• Support: Mid-level providers available (9-hour coverage).
• Trauma level: N/A.

Credentials and compliance

• Board certification: ABEM, AOBEM, or ABMS certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
• Licensure: Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license required.
• DEA/CDS: DEA registration with a Virginia address covering schedules II–V.
• Certifications: ACLS required; ATLS and PALS required if not board-certified in EM; NRP required if non-ABEM.
• Immunizations: Current MMR, Varicella, TB, and annual flu required.
• Documentation: Case logs for the last 2 years and Preeclampsia CME every 2 years.

Experience and onboarding

• Recent EM residency graduates (within the past 12 months) are welcome; a 3-month proctorship is required.
