Join a busy inpatient cardiothoracic team in Topeka, KS for a locum tenens opportunity running Sep 5–Dec 5, 2026. You’ll work primarily 7:00 AM–5:00 PM with alternating 24-hour in-house/floor call weeks, providing clinical coverage and supporting adult cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients.

What you’ll do

  • Provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgery coverage and participate in rounding, admissions, and clinical decision-making.
  • Perform endovascular vein harvesting (EVH) for cardiac surgery cases and manage post-op care.
  • Care for patients across cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery service lines.
  • Take part in floor and weekend call; phone consults are required during call coverage.
  • Document all patient care in Epic.

Who we’re looking for

  • Active Nurse Practitioner license required; board certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in endovascular vein harvest required.
  • Must be willing to teach EVH techniques to two new APPs on site.

Setting and support

  • Facility uses Epic EMR.
  • You’ll be supported by the cardiovascular service line and two APRNs on staff.
  • Hospital privileges are required.

Coverage details and caseload

  • Inpatient setting with an average of 1–10 patient encounters per shift.
  • Admissions, rounding, and consults included as needed.
  • Case mix includes cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and thoracic surgery.

Compensation and logistics
