We’re seeking a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide both outpatient and inpatient coverage in Kalispell, MT. This is a locum tenens assignment beginning Aug 1, 2026 and continuing on an ongoing basis. Travel, lodging, and malpractice are covered by the agency.
Schedule and Coverage
- Regular hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- On-call: Friday 5:00 p.m. through Monday 8:00 a.m.; beeper call with a required response time of 30 minutes
- Call frequency: approximately 1:6
- Coverage type: clinical work plus call; supplemental coverage reason
Patient and Clinical Details
- Patient population: children and adolescents, ages 4–17
- Average daily volume: 7–10 outpatient visits; ~15 inpatients
- Typical visit lengths: 20–120 minutes
- Follow-up ratio: roughly 3 follow-ups for every 30 new evaluations
- Rounds: inpatient rounding required
Facility and Systems
- Inpatient department: 38 beds total (18 adolescent, 18 adult, 2 special care)
- EMR: MediTech
- Temporary privileges: available
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric care for ages 4–17, including evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management
- Participate in weekend on-call coverage for the Acute Behavioral Health Stabilization Unit, accept new admissions by phone, and perform daily inpatient rounds
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (RNs, therapists, psych techs) on the inpatient unit
- Manage voluntary and involuntary admissions, including occasional mental health holds
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in MediTech
Required Skills and Procedures
- Experience treating anxiety, mood, personality, and psychotic disorders, and ADD/ADHD
- Familiarity with restraint application and pharmacotherapy
Qualifications
- Board certification or eligibility in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (BC/BE)
- Licensed in Montana or eligible via the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC)
- BLS certification required
