Seeking a locum tenens OB/GYN to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care in Brattleboro, VT. Coverage begins Aug 15, 2026 and is ongoing, with 12-hour clinic/call shifts (8a–8p or 8p–8a). Travel, lodging, and malpractice are provided. This assignment addresses a staffing shortage and includes both clinical responsibilities and variable call coverage.

Patient and clinical profile

  • Adult female population: ~60% gynecology, 40% obstetrics (even split between low- and high-risk pregnancies).
  • Clinic volume: 14–16 scheduled patients per day.
  • Admissions: ~1 nursery admission daily.
  • Case mix: low- and high-risk obstetrics, routine and complex deliveries, office and operative gynecology.

Facility and support

  • Department beds: 7; non-trauma center.
  • EMR: Cerner Community Works.
  • Equipment: ultrasound (clinic & hospital), colposcope, LEEP, D&C, standard GYN instruments.
  • Backup: additional OB/GYN physicians and CNMs.
  • Staff: variable RNs, 1 MA per clinician, 4 CNMs/PAs/NPs.

Privileges and credentialing

  • Hospital privileges required.
  • Credentialing timeline: approximately 90 days.

Required clinical skills and procedures

  • Obstetrics: FHR interpretation (NST/CST/FSE), OB ultrasound interpretation and Level I/screening scans, management of low- and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Labor & delivery: routine vaginal deliveries, low forceps, decision-making for and performance of C-sections, management of complicated deliveries (breech, multiples, abruptions), VBACs, repair of 3rd/4th-degree perineal lacerations.
  • Gynecology: office procedures (IUD, colposcopy, cryotherapy, cystoscopy, LEEP), minor laparoscopy (tubal ligation, LOA), open and major operative gynecology (ectopic management, oophorectomy, cystectomy, extensive LOA).

Requirements

  • Board certified in OB/GYN.
  • Active Vermont medical license or Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC); willingness to obtain acceptable licensure.
  • Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency (U.S. or Canada).
  • Certifications: BLS and NRP.
  • Clean malpractice history preferred; NPDB self-query required at presentation.
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver full-spectrum obstetric and gynecologic care in clinic and hospital settings.
  • Perform vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including high-risk and complicated cases.
  • Provide office-based and operative gynecologic procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with CNMs and multidisciplinary support staff.
  • Use Cerner for documentation and engage in quality improvement initiatives.
