Job Description
Job ID: N/A
We’re seeking a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with critical care experience to provide inpatient locum coverage in Suffolk, VA. You’ll work primarily adult critical care patients using Epic, stepping in while new providers complete credentialing. This is clinical coverage only.
Schedule & coverage: The primary pattern is five 13‑hour shifts, Fri–Tue, 7:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m., starting Aug 13, 2026 and ongoing. Specific blocks include a mix of days and nights through Nov 2026 (examples: Aug 13–17 nights 8p–7a; Aug 20–24 days 7a–8p; multiple day blocks in Sept–Nov; additional nights Oct 9–11 and Nov 23–25). Monthly shifts will continue beyond Sept 2026 (shifts TBD), so availability for posted dates and ongoing monthly coverage is required.
Patient load & scope: Adult ICU patients with an average daily census around 13 (range 1–20). Admissions are expected from the ED, hospital floors, and surrounding hospitals. You’ll monitor admitting critical care patients, assist with overnight decompensations, manage ventilators with RT support, and update families/goals of care as needed.
Procedures & privileges: Required comfort with central venous lines, arterial lines, and hemodialysis catheters. Hospital privileges are required but temporary privileges are available; credentialing typically takes 2–4 weeks. A clean background is necessary for temporary privileges.
Credentials & requirements: Active Virginia license, active DEA, current BLS and ACLS. Must be board-certified as an NP and have prior critical care experience.
Facility & systems: Inpatient setting using Epic EMR.
If you’re comfortable with high-acuity adult patients, procedures listed above, and the alternating day/night coverage through the fall and beyond, this is a good fit while the site completes provider credentialing.
