Job Description
Board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine physician needed for locum tenens coverage in Port St. Lucie, FL. 12-hour shifts in a busy community ED treating adult and pediatric patients alongside experienced APPs.
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift length: 12 hours
- Coverage: AM and PM shifts
- Weekend coverage required
- No call
- Average credentialing time: 90 days
Facility & Resources
- ED annual volume: ~43,000 visits
- 35 private ED rooms
- 24 inpatient beds
- Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center
- Admission rate: 18%–24%
- EMR: Meditech with Dragon dictation
- Physician coverage: 40 hours daily
- APP coverage: 22 hours daily
Patient Population & Volume
- Adult and pediatric patients
- Predominantly Level 3–4 acuity; occasional Level 2
- Community-based ED
- Average physician volume: 1.2–2.0 patients/hour
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat emergency and urgent conditions for adults and children
- Stabilize and manage critically ill or injured patients
- Perform necessary emergency procedures
- Coordinate care with specialists, nursing, and ancillary staff
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Meditech using Dragon dictation
- Follow departmental quality and patient safety protocols
Requirements
- Active Florida medical license
- Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
- ABEM candidates only (no Internal Medicine or Family Medicine)
- Current ACLS, PALS certifications
- Current DEA registration
