Medical Director of Ophthalmology (Physician) — Rutland, VT

Join a thriving, hospital-employed ophthalmology practice in scenic Rutland, Vermont, as the Medical Director of Ophthalmology. This role blends a busy clinical schedule with meaningful leadership responsibilities—an opportunity to shape and expand ophthalmic services within a respected regional healthcare system.

What you’ll do

• Lead and grow a well-established, high-volume ophthalmology service with a strong regional referral base.
• Provide comprehensive clinical care alongside a collaborative team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and Certified Ophthalmic Assistants.
• Oversee quality initiatives, clinical operations, and service development while maintaining active surgical and outpatient practice.
• Use a state-of-the-art procedure center with dedicated OR block time and up-to-date surgical and diagnostic equipment.
• Participate in a manageable call schedule (1:4) with minimal burden.

Who we’re looking for

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology.
• Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency; fellowship training is welcome but not required.
• Eligible for Vermont medical licensure and hospital medical staff privileges.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, commitment to high-quality patient care, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
