Locum CV Surgery Nurse Practitioner — First Assist & EVH Expert | Redding, CA

A respected cardiovascular surgery program in Redding, CA seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner for a locums assignment. The provider will first-assist in cardiac and thoracic procedures, perform endovascular vein harvesting (EVH), and manage perioperative, inpatient, and outpatient care in collaboration with cardiovascular surgeons.

Schedule & Call

• Onsite shifts: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Night call: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend coverage required as scheduled
• Holiday call coverage included for assignment dates
• Average callback: ~1–2 hours
• No ICU, Cath Lab, or ED call responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• First assist in cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures
• Perform endovascular vein harvesting (EVH)
• Manage preoperative assessment and postoperative care
• Conduct daily inpatient rounds and document progress notes
• Support postoperative patient management with surgeons
• Provide outpatient follow-up clinic coverage (Tuesdays and Thursdays; up to 6 patients/session)
• Collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams

Case Volume & Setting

• ~10–11 cardiac surgeries per month
• Additional thoracic cases available for first assist
• Average inpatient census: typically fewer than 10 patients

Requirements

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner
• Active California license preferred
• Current ACLS and BLS
• DEA certification
• Recent, substantial cardiovascular surgery experience
• Strong first assist experience in cardiac surgery required
• Substantial EVH experience mandatory
