We’re seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join an orthopedic surgery team in Mason City, Iowa, on a locum tenens basis starting Aug 2026 and continuing ongoing. This role blends inpatient and outpatient care with clinical duties plus call; typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with weeknight and weekend call for trauma and emergencies. Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are provided.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide comprehensive orthopedic care in the clinic and on the floor, including rounding on post-op patients and handling inpatient consults.
- Serve as a surgical first assist and actively participate in orthopedic procedures.
- Respond to emergency department consults for orthopedic injuries and conditions.
- Cover orthopedic trauma and emergencies when on call.
Patient population and case mix
- Adult and geriatric patients.
- Mix includes joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), trauma and fracture care, sports medicine, and a variety of hand, wrist, ankle, and foot procedures.
Facility and support
- Clinic EMR: GE Centricity; Hospital EMR: Epic.
- Typical support: 1 RN per provider; office team includes reception and shared surgery schedulers (3 receptionists; 2 surgery schedulers supporting 7 providers).
Credentials and requirements
- Board Certified or Board Eligible; new graduates are welcome.
- Active Iowa license or compact (IMLC) license required.
- Clean malpractice history and an up-to-date CV required at time of name clear.
- Hospital privileges required; expect a 60–90 day credentialing timeline.
Procedures you should be comfortable with
- Total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements.
- Surgical procedures involving the hand, wrist, knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and foot.
- Management of trauma injuries, fractures, and sports-related conditions.
Coverage and reason for role
- Supplemental (PRN) coverage to support existing providers.
