We are seeking a board-certified Gastroenterology physician to provide inpatient locum tenens coverage in Albuquerque, NM. This role involves in-house rounding and advanced endoscopic services with continuous weekly beeper call blocks.

Schedule & Coverage

• Coverage type: Clinical inpatient + call (beeper)
• Shift schedule: Daily in-house rounding, Mon–Sun, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
• Call schedule: 7:00 AM Monday–7:00 AM the following Monday (7-day continuous beeper blocks)
• Call ratio: 1:10; response time: ASAP based on urgency
• Travel, lodging and malpractice provided by agency

Clinical Scope & Volume

• Inpatient rounding on assigned patients (average census ~15/day; admissions 5–10/week)
• Manage higher-acuity GI inpatient care and coordinate with hospital teams for continuity

Required Procedures & Skills

• Required: Colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), liver biopsy, insertion/management of Sengstaken–Blakemore tube
• Preferred/expected: Upper endoscopy (biopsy, foreign body removal, hemostasis), ERCP (diagnostic/therapeutic, with PEG), esophageal dilation/manometry and interpretation, small bowel biopsies, flexible/rigid sigmoidoscopy
• Proficiency in advanced endoscopic procedures including ERCP and EUS is essential

Facility & Support

• EMR: Epic
• Support staff: 3 RNs and 3 PAs/NPs
• Temporary hospital privileges are available (no prior privileges required)

Requirements & Compliance

• Board certified in Gastroenterology
• Active New Mexico medical license and NM-dedicated DEA
• BLS and ACLS required
• Fellowship preferred
• Clean background check required for temporary privileges

Primary responsibilities

• Provide daily inpatient GI rounds (8 AM–5 PM)
• Perform advanced endoscopic procedures and manage inpatient admissions
• Carry and respond to beeper call during assigned 7-day blocks
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary hospital staff to ensure safe, continuous patient care
