The Department of Anesthesiology at Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking a full-time APRN to work with the Acute Pain Service (APS) and Medical Pain Service (MPS).  The APS is managed by a team of anesthesiologists responsible for consulting on the management of acute pain in the hospital including perioperative pain, trauma, burns, and other acute exacerbations of pain.  The APS team currently consists of a group of anesthesiologists with support from 4 pain nurses.  An APS physician and pain nurse round each morning to provide pain management utilizing a variety of modalities including PCAs, pain infusion, neuraxial, and regional anesthesia. The Medical Pain Service (MPS) is managed by two anesthesiologists board certified in pain management who manage the treatment of chronic pain in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.  Each morning, the MPS physician rounds with the pain RN to manage the care of patients experiencing chronic and complex pain.

The APRN will focus on the management of inpatients on both the APS and MPS.  They will round daily with one or both services, assist with consults, and serve as a resource for the inpatient teams alongside the pain RN. We are seeking an individual who is motivated to learn, and values being part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient/family centered care.  Training will be provided to the APRN by the APS and MPS physicians.

Each APRN-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development.
