We’re seeking a solid tumor medical oncologist to provide locum tenens coverage in Columbia, Missouri, supporting outpatient adult oncology services at an academic outpatient clinic. You’ll focus on solid tumors—particularly lung, gastrointestinal (GI), genitourinary (GU), and thoracic malignancies—working closely with physicians, APPs, nurses, and oncology support staff to deliver patient-centered, high-quality care.

What the role looks like

  • Locum tenens contract covering 8/5/2026–3/1/2027
  • Clinical-only, 100% outpatient/clinic setting within an academic medical center
  • Schedule: Wednesday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (3 days/week, every week)
  • Average clinic volume: ~15 scheduled patients per physician per day
  • EMR: Cerner/PowerChart
  • Patient population: adults only
  • Hospital privileges required; credentialing/privileging estimated at 90–120 days
  • Missouri medical license preferred (all qualified providers will be considered)

Core qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • Active, unrestricted medical license (Missouri license preferred)
  • Board certified in Medical Oncology or Hematology/Oncology preferred; fellowship-trained candidates will be considered
  • Strong clinical experience in solid tumor oncology, especially lung, GI, GU, and/or thoracic cancers

Key responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient oncology care for adult patients with solid tumors: evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage ongoing care
  • Conduct follow-up visits, develop treatment plans, manage symptoms, and coordinate long-term disease management
  • Review labs, imaging, pathology, and treatment histories to guide clinical decisions
  • Coordinate delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted agents, and supportive care with nursing and APP teams
  • Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary care planning as needed
  • Collaborate with attending physicians, APPs, RNs/LPNs, radiation oncology, and other specialists to ensure seamless care
  • Offer clinical guidance and oversight to APPs, residents/fellows, and other providers when appropriate
  • Document encounters accurately and in a timely manner in Cerner/PowerChart
  • Communicate treatment recommendations clearly to patients, families, and the care team
  • Adhere to facility policies, clinical protocols, credentialing requirements, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
