Job Description

We’re looking for a Physician to join the care team at a State Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford, Mississippi, to provide onsite primary medical services and clinical oversight for residents. You’ll conduct medical assessments and physical exams, develop and manage treatment plans and medications, review care plans, support discharges, and ensure accurate clinical documentation. This role helps maintain continuity of care and ensures regulatory-compliant medical coverage for veterans in long-term care.

  • Schedule: Services provided 24/7, 365 days/year. Expect 40 hours onsite weekly (weekday focus) with remaining hours on call. Daily visits Monday–Friday beginning no earlier than 7:00 a.m.; nurse practitioners/physician assistants will be onsite Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day. On-call coverage required at all times.

What you’ll do

  • Perform regular resident medical assessments and comprehensive physical exams
  • Create and manage individualized treatment and medication plans
  • Review and update care plans with the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide discharge planning support and medical oversight for transitions of care
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation and meet regulatory standards
  • Supervise and collaborate with NPs, PAs, nursing staff, and other clinical team members

Who we’re looking for

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Current, unrestricted Mississippi medical license
  • Board certified in your specialty
  • DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances
  • Minimum 3–5 years clinical experience, ideally in long-term care, geriatrics, or skilled nursing
  • Strong communicator who can lead and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
