Location: Corsicana, TX — Inpatient and outpatient coverage for a community hospital (Trauma Level IV, 4 surgical beds). Facility uses Medhost EMR. Temporary privileges available; hospital privileges required.
Assignment: Locum tenens general surgeon to provide supplemental in-house 24-hour call coverage (30-minute response time; 100% call-back). Coverage period: August 1–September 27. Shifts needed: August (TBD); September: 4–6, 11–13, 18–20, 25–27. Call-only coverage. Typical phone consults: ~5 per shift. Patient volume: 1–3 patients; admissions: 1–3. Rounds required. Support: 1 RN and 1 office staff.
Clinical scope and required procedures:
- General adult and trauma surgery
- Laparoscopic procedures: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, Nissen fundoplication
- Head/neck surgery including thyroid; chest wall/pleural procedures; breast surgery
- GI endoscopy: upper and lower endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy
- Hand surgery
- Ventilation management; chest tube and central line insertion; PA catheter placement
- Vascular surgery including aneurysm repairs
Compensation & logistics: Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided.
Requirements:
- Active Texas medical license
- Board certified or board eligible in General Surgery
- ACLS certification
