Job Description
Join a busy Emergency Department in Texas City, Texas, where you'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative setting alongside an experienced emergency medicine team. This locum opportunity is a great fit for physicians who enjoy managing a wide variety of acute medical and trauma cases and who thrive in a team-oriented environment.
Schedule and Coverage
- 12-hour day and night shifts: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekday, weekend, and night coverage available
- No call required
- On-site clinical coverage
Clinical Environment
- Average daily census: 55–60 patients
- Typical flow: about 2 patients per hour, with occasional surges of 8+ patients in an hour
- Mixed patient population presenting medical emergencies and traumatic injuries
- Strong, collaborative ED team with experienced nursing and clinical support staff
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a wide range of emergency conditions
- Perform common ED procedures, including endotracheal intubation, procedural sedation, fracture reduction and splinting, chest tube placement, CPR, laceration repair, incision and drainage, and central venous line placement
- Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics
- Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and coordinate specialty care or transfers as needed
- Document encounters accurately in the electronic medical record
Typical Cases You’ll See
- Chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath
- Falls, motor vehicle collisions, sports-related injuries
- Routine emergency medical and trauma presentations
Note: Severe or penetrating trauma is uncommon.
Qualifications
- ABEM board certification preferred; experienced emergency physicians with equivalent training will be considered
- Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
- Current DEA registration
- Required certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS (as applicable)
