Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon — Ongoing Shift-Based Role at Level II Trauma Center (Amarillo, TX)

Join a high-volume, well-supported surgical team at a 495-bed Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, Texas. This ongoing locum opportunity offers shift-based coverage within a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice managing a diverse trauma and acute care surgery caseload.

Why this role is a great fit:

• Work in a busy program that handles approximately 1,618 trauma activations, more than 1,000 trauma admissions, and nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases each year.
• Provide in-house trauma and Acute Care Surgery (ACS) coverage with scheduled backup call.
• Typical schedule consists of 24-hour shifts, with a required 30-minute callback response time when on backup.

What you’ll do:

• Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients.
• Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries.
• Provide ACS consultations and procedures.
• Participate in trauma activations and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospitalists, and surgical staff.
• Accurately document patient encounters in the facility’s electronic medical record.

Qualifications:

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
• Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred.
• Active Texas medical license, or ability to obtain one.
• Current ATLS certification.
• Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience.
• Strong clinical decision-making skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
