Join a high-volume, well-supported surgical team at a 495-bed Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, Texas. This ongoing locum opportunity offers shift-based coverage within a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice managing a diverse trauma and acute care surgery caseload.
Why this role is a great fit:
- Work in a busy program that handles approximately 1,618 trauma activations, more than 1,000 trauma admissions, and nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases each year.
- Provide in-house trauma and Acute Care Surgery (ACS) coverage with scheduled backup call.
- Typical schedule consists of 24-hour shifts, with a required 30-minute callback response time when on backup.
What you’ll do:
- Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients.
- Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries.
- Provide ACS consultations and procedures.
- Participate in trauma activations and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team.
- Collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospitalists, and surgical staff.
- Accurately document patient encounters in the facility’s electronic medical record.
Qualifications:
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
- Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred.
- Active Texas medical license, or ability to obtain one.
- Current ATLS certification.
- Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
