Locum Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician — Amarillo, TX (Level II Trauma Center)

Facility

• 495-bed acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, TX
• High-volume, well-supported surgical program

Role

• Ongoing locum opportunity providing shift-based in-house trauma and acute care surgery (ACS) coverage
• 24-hour shifts including call; 30-minute callback response when on backup call

Clinical Volume (annual)

• ~1,618 trauma activations
• >1,000 trauma admissions
• ~500 ACS operative cases

Coverage & Scheduling

• In-house trauma coverage and ACS coverage
• Backup call coverage as scheduled
• Collaborative, multidisciplinary practice with emergency medicine, critical care, hospitalists, and surgical staff

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients
• Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries
• Provide ACS consultations and procedures
• Participate in trauma activations and multidisciplinary patient care
• Accurately document patient encounters in the facility EMR

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
• Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain
• Current ATLS certification
• Demonstrated trauma and ACS experience; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound clinical decisions
