Locum Cardiology Nurse Practitioner — Outpatient Cardiac Rehab (McAllen, TX)

An outpatient cardiac rehabilitation clinic in McAllen, TX is seeking an experienced locum Nurse Practitioner for an 18-week assignment. This role is fully outpatient with no hospital rounding, bedside care, invasive procedures, or cath lab duties — ideal for clinicians who prefer a structured clinic environment.

Schedule and setting

• Location: Medical office building adjacent to the hospital in McAllen, TX
• Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with a one-hour lunch
• Last scheduled patient: 4:30 PM
• No weekends, on-call, or inpatient responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients enrolled in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation
• Perform new patient assessments and create individualized treatment plans
• Monitor progress and modify care plans as needed
• Provide patient education on medications, exercise, heart-healthy lifestyle changes, and risk-factor management
• Collaborate with cardiologists, rehab staff, nurses, and ancillary team members to optimize outcomes
• Accurately document encounters in the electronic medical record (ScottCare VersaCare)

Patient volume

• Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: ~16 follow-up patients per day
• Tuesday and Friday: ~2–4 new patient evaluations

Qualifications

• Board-certified Nurse Practitioner with previous cardiac rehabilitation experience
• Experience in outpatient cardiology preferred
• Active Texas NP license; current DEA registration if applicable
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
• Familiarity with ScottCare VersaCare EMR is a plus
