Job Description
A busy Emergency Department in Texas City, TX is seeking a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician to join a collaborative, fast-paced team. This role is well-suited for physicians who enjoy managing a wide range of acute medical and trauma presentations alongside experienced emergency clinicians and support staff.
Position highlights:
- 12-hour day and night shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
- Weekday, weekend, and night coverage available
- No on-call obligations
- On-site clinical coverage
Clinical environment:
- Average daily census of 55–60 patients (≈2 patients/hour, with occasional surges ≥8/hour)
- Diverse patient mix of medical emergencies and traumatic injuries
- Well-staffed, collaborative ED with experienced nursing and ancillary support
- Severe or penetrating trauma is uncommon
Primary responsibilities:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a broad spectrum of emergency conditions
- Perform common ED procedures, including endotracheal intubation, procedural sedation, fracture reduction and splinting, chest tube placement, central line placement, laceration repair, incision and drainage, and CPR
- Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics
- Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and coordinate specialty consultations and transfers as needed
- Accurately document patient encounters in the electronic medical record
Typical cases:
- Chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath
- Falls, motor vehicle collisions, sports-related injuries
- Routine emergency medical and trauma presentations
Qualifications:
- ABEM board certification preferred; experienced emergency physicians with equivalent training and substantial ED experience will be considered
- Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
- Current DEA registration
- ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS certifications as required
