Locums Emergency Medicine Physician — Freestanding ED (Independence, MO)

A Freestanding Emergency Department in Independence, Missouri is seeking a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician to provide coverage in a collaborative, lower-acuity setting. This role is well suited to physicians who value teamwork with APP support, predictable volumes, and the opportunity to focus on efficient, high-quality urgent care.

• Setting: Freestanding Emergency Department in Independence, MO
• Shifts: Day and night 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
• Call: No additional call responsibilities
• Volume: ~1.6 patients per hour across the department
• Admission rate: Approximately 5% or less
• Coverage model: Single physician on shift with APP support

Clinical environment

• Primarily low-acuity urgent and emergency presentations with occasional higher-acuity walk-ins
• Department configuration: triage space with APP-supported treatment flow (freestanding site is not a trauma center; affiliated hospital is a Level II Trauma Center)
• Focus on prompt evaluation, stabilization, and appropriate transfer of patients when escalation is required

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage emergency and urgent medical complaints within scope of practice
• Perform standard ED procedures and stabilize higher-acuity patients for transfer as needed
• Collaborate closely with APPs, nursing, and support staff to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care
• Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation

Support and resources

• Full complement of ED nursing and ancillary staff
• Advanced Practice Provider support present during physician shifts

Qualifications

• Board certified in Emergency Medicine
• Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain one
• Current DEA registration
• Required certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS, BLS (as applicable)
