Locum Tenens General Cardiologist — In-House Weekend Night Coverage (Asheville, NC)

A well-established healthcare system in Asheville, NC is seeking a Board-Certified General Cardiology physician to provide in-house overnight weekend coverage. This role is suited to an experienced cardiologist comfortable managing acute cardiac conditions and critically ill patients in a hospital setting.

Schedule and Coverage

• In-house night coverage, primarily Friday–Sunday nights (flexible schedules and alternate availability considered)
• Typical shift times:
  • Friday night: ~5:00 PM–7:00 AM (start may be delayed to 8:00 PM for commuting)
  • Saturday night: 6:00 PM–7:00 AM
  • Sunday night: 6:00 PM–7:00 AM

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide overnight in-house cardiology care and manage Cardiac ICU admissions
• Evaluate and treat acute cardiovascular emergencies, including STEMI, unstable VT, VF, and cardiogenic shock
• Interpret ECGs and echocardiograms
• Collaborate with Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Heart Failure teams who provide at-home backup support
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR

Qualifications

• MD or DO required
• Board Certified in Cardiology
• Active North Carolina medical license and DEA registration required
• Proven experience managing critically ill cardiac patients and ICU admissions
• Strong ECG interpretation and echocardiography reading skills
