Medical Director of Ophthalmology — Hospital-Employed, Leadership Role in Rutland VT (Full-Time)

Hospital-employed, full-time opportunity in Rutland, Vermont combining clinical practice and departmental leadership. The Medical Director will oversee and grow ophthalmology services within a regional healthcare system while maintaining an active surgical and clinic practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical care across outpatient clinic and surgical settings
• Lead clinical program development, quality improvement, and service expansion
• Mentor and collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and clinical staff
• Manage credentialing, staffing coordination, and operational workflows for the ophthalmology service
• Participate in hospital leadership meetings and strategic planning

Practice environment

• Established, high-volume referral base in the region
• Collaborative multidisciplinary team (ophthalmologists, optometrists, Certified Ophthalmic Assistants)
• Dedicated operating room block time in a state-of-the-art procedure center
• Modern surgical and diagnostic equipment
• Call schedule: 1:4

Minimum qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology
• Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency
• Fellowship training welcome but not required
• Eligible for Vermont medical license and hospital privileges
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
