Cooper University Health Care and the Cooper Heart Institute maintain a highly successful cardiac surgical program with extensive experience in minimally invasive valve surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic surgery, mechanical circulatory support including LVAD and Impella therapies, and a robust ECMO program, performing over 1,100 open-heart procedures annually.

Cooper's Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program includes active LVAD and Impella therapies. Candidates for the Cardiac Surgeon position must have experience in LVAD and Impella implantation and management and be eligible for institutional credentialing/certification. Demonstrated expertise in patient selection, implantation, peri-procedural management, and longitudinal care of patients requiring mechanical circulatory support is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery with specialization in Adult Cardiac Surgery
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Jersey
• Expertise in adult cardiac surgery, including valve, coronary, aortic, and endovascular thoracic aortic procedures
• LVAD and Impella implantation experience with eligibility for institutional credentialing/certification
• Within current with CMS volume requirements to perform LVAD:  Implanted at least 10 VADs within the last 36 months, remaining actively involved in the last 12 months
• Commitment to academic medicine, clinical excellence, and multidisciplinary collaboration
