Required Procedures/Competencies

  • General cardiovascular and thoracic surgery (open and endoscopic)
  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Valvular repair and replacement; TAVR
  • Aneurysm repair
  • Congenital defect repair (ASD, VSD, PFO)
  • Lung resections including VATS
  • Chest wall/pleural procedures; esophageal and diaphragmatic surgery
  • AICD placement; LVAD management
  • Bronchoscopy; ventilator management
  • Hemodynamic/volume assessment and management
  • Insertion of central line, arterial line, PA catheter, IABP

Qualifications

  • Fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery required
  • Board certified or board eligible (BC/BE)
  • Minnesota medical license or participation in IMLC
  • Certifications: ACLS, ATLS

Primary Duties

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient cardiothoracic surgical care (pre-, intra-, post-op)
  • Perform required operative procedures and manage acute surgical issues
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities per schedule and 20-minute response requirement
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, anesthesia, PAs/NPs, support staff)
  • Document all patient encounters in Epic and follow hospital protocols
